Mission Accomplished.

I’ve finished the Levi jacket and David wore it today. I took some terrible photos this morning, and this is the best of a bad lot. Back to shirts;  the next one is yellow. Regards, Will.

I bought a great length of fabric at a charity shop today; a rich Dragon print, just over three metres, more than enough for a lot of things including a shirt. Black and gold, what could be more beautiful. I see a shirt, but will that be a waste? I don’t know, it’s cotton so it’ll be pleasant to wear. I’ll wash it and ruminate. Regards.  Will.

Autumn and sunshine yellow

The next shirt (and I will be very glad to return to shirts) will be a bright yellow. Can’t wait to start it. I am STILL working on the Levi jacket (so much topstitching)! The Mimi G Simplicity 8845) sizing is terrible, the 42-44 is barely a 38 and very short as well  –  the top pocket is too small and I’m not happy with it but I shall soldier on. I have a friend who loves it, it fits him and he wants it so that makes it worthwhile. Only the waistband, cuffs and side plackets to go… and buttons/holes ,  of course . It’s been scrunched up on the ironing board, so it’s a little creased. I have found a pattern I’d prefer but it’s probably out of print; it is Kwik Sew 3251, it looks much better, perhaps I’ll find one on eBay or some-such site. This looks much better , hope I can find it. It would be interesting to find out what other sewists think of the Mimi G pattern. Off to seize the day which will include a visit to a local market  –  and s...

I feel as if I've been working on this Levi jacket for months, nothing has taken me this long before. I am not sewing so much, distractions, including the weather and CFS have been slowing me down. Anyway, not much more to do; the collar, waistband, sleeves and cuffs.. . well, maybe  quite a bit . I now have a mannequin which will make fitting easier, thank you Facebook Marketplace. So much stitching! I shall be very glad to return to shirt making. This is only a muslin but I think it will be wearable - I hope so because I'd hate to discard it after all this stitching. I was going to make a St Valentines Day bow tie but didn't get there; maybe next year. That's all, time to make a collar, Regards, Will.

Progress

Please visit my site; william -sews.com The weather is a little cooler today so I’m back in my sewing room and have been working on the Levi jacket. I have completed one of the welt pockets and it’s not too bad but not perfect … my excuses are; it’s only a muslin and I haven’t sewn one for a long time. I’ll finish the other tomorrow and then it should be a downhill run to complete the jacket. I would like to think that’s the most difficult part complete and I hope that’s the case. That’s my day,  Regards,  Will.

Ready for a muslin, toile...

Please visit my site at  william -sews.com … or just a sample. I’ve copied and altered ALL the pattern pieces, it seemed like hundreds when I was working on it but it’s nineteen plus a button placement piece which I didn’t copy because the buttons will be spaced differently. I have a blue fabric piece that’s been hanging around for years which will work for the sample, it’s a similar weight to denim—and if it works out, I’ll have a powder blue jacket. These are the pattern pieces, in my size I hope, if any bits need altering, no problem.  I find this easier than trying to use the flimsy tissue pieces. This is the blue. I hope the pattern is alright because this would be a nice jacket. I also found this whilst rummaging and I may use it for a jacket or part thereof, (mutton dressed as lamb but I don’t care). I’m eager to start but have other, mundane things I must do first, perhaps I’ll be able to start later in the week. Regards,  Will.

Levi jacket pattern.

Please visit my site;  william -sews.com I’ve been working on the Levi jacket pattern  –  there are a lot of pieces; twenty all told  and I have four to go, then I can make a sample and see if my adjustments are alright. I’ve copied it onto Ram Board, pinning tissue paper onto fabric isn’t for me, it anything is wrong then I’ll just redo those pieces. I had to stay offline for a whole day because a storm passed over and a bolt of lightning destroyed a tree in the garden, bits flew off in every direction … it actually  exploded. I’ve never been close to lightning before nor do I want to be again. No animals were hurt and it missed the house, car and shed. It knocked out the modem and I had to buy another. Back to the four remaining pattern pieces. Regards,  Will.
