Coming soon – although I’m still not sewing right now as there are too many distractions, the latest shirt is partially completed and I’m keen to get back to it. In the meantime I’ve ordered a Levi jacket pattern on eBay, I’ve looked for one at the big sewing shop in the city but no luck.
I have to wait until the 14th for the pattern to be delivered…that should give me time to finish this darned shirt.
This is the pattern; a traditional Levi jacket in sizes from XS to XL. I’ve made them in the past and it’ll be great to make another one… or two. I have denim I was going touse to make a shirt but may use it for this if I have enough. My plan is to eventually stray from just denim and use other materials, a new sewing adventure.
NOW, of course, I shall have to buy press studs for the front, cuffs and band.
I hope one of my machines can cope, if the new ones can’t then I’m sure one of the vintage machines will.
Yoking. Please visit my site at william -sews.com After the success of the curved yoke for my block shirt I’ve made a few more. The top piece is the curved back yoke I used on the last shirt, the curve wasn’t deep enough so I’ve redrafted it; I think it will work much better. This was the curved yoke – not much of a curve at all. I also made a chevron front and back yoke. Now I have to dream up a few other things to do with the block pattern, pocket flaps or panels, anything goes – maybe an extreme western yoke. I am looking forward to the Levi jacket pattern arriving, it’s due in the next two days. Regards, Will.
I have finished my ‘Down on the farm’ shirt. I like the fabric, I thought it may be difficult to sew because it’s a loose weave but it was alright. It will be a great summer shirt because it’s so light. I was lazy and top stitched a few millimetres in from the edge – a bit 80’s perhaps but it’s a change from edge stitching (and so much easier). I sewed a rounded pocket this time instead of my favourite chevron style. I should have matched the pattern because I had enough fabric, maybe next shirt. I have the next two cut out and ready to go, I’m going to make both at the same time, that will be fun. Please visit my site; william-sews.com/ Keep well, keep safe, Regards, Will.
These blocks are some I made, but for various reasons, won't be using. They are nice enough, but perhaps not interesting enough to continue. T hat's my lot for today, Take care, Will.
